Municipal services on Remembrance Day

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal service levels in effect on Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 and Monday, Nov. 12:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours: There will be no change to garbage, organics or recyclables collection services due to the Remembrance Day holiday. Collection services will occur as usual on Monday, Nov. 12. Collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. To ensure collection please place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

 

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be open regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Household Special Waste Depot will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 10, but will be open on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services: Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11.

For detailed holiday schedules by individual route, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php. Please also note that veterans and military personnel, and accompanying family members, will be offered free transit on Remembrance Day.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services: Many municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11 and Monday, Nov. 12. Please contact your individual facility in advance to confirm operating hours.

Customer Contact Centres: The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 but the 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The municipality encourages residents to take a moment on Nov. 11 to remember those who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.

Free transit for veterans and military personnel on Remembrance Day

In recognition of those who serve our country, Halifax Transit is offering free transit to all veterans and military personnel, and accompanying family members, on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.

Veterans or military personnel wishing to use the free transit service are simply asked to be in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding.

This offer extends to Halifax Transit bus and harbour ferry services, as well as registered Access-A-Bus users.
