Municipal special election e-voting begins this weekend

Voters in Lower Sackville (District 15) will begin casting ballots in the municipal special election this Saturday, Sept. 28 at noon.

This is the first time the municipality is eliminating paper ballots in favour of an all-electronic/telephone election. In-person voting opportunities will be maintained through advance polls (Saturday, Sept. 28 and Tuesday, Oct. 1), and on election day (Saturday, Oct. 5). Votes will be cast electronically, and elections staff will be on hand to provide technology and support.

E-voting and telephone voting will begin Sept. 28 at noon and will continue through to election day at 7 p.m.

Advance polls will be set up at the Sackville Lions Club (101 Old Beaver Bank Rd.) on Sept. 28 and Oct. 1 from noon to 8 p.m. on both days.

On election day polls will be open in two locations across Lower Sackville. Voters should check their voter information letter for details on where they can vote in person.

Voter information letters are in the mail this week. If prospective electors have not received a letter with their unique personal identification number by Friday, Sept. 27, they should call 902-490-VOTE. Voters can be added to the list of electors at physical polling stations.

A special election in Lower Sackville is required because of the recent resignation of former Coun. Steve Craig, who successfully won a seat in the provincial legislature.

A record 10 candidates are vying for the vacant seat. For contact information on all the candidates please visit the election website at: www.halifax.ca/election.
