Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to advise that yesterday a tentative collective agreement was reached with the bargaining team for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 108 Unit 1.
CUPE Local 108’s bargaining team has indicated that it will be recommending approval of the tentative agreement to its membership at a vote to be scheduled over the coming days.
Pending a positive vote in favour of the tentative agreement, the conclusion of the negotiating process will require consideration of the agreement by Regional Council, and subsequent ratification.
Collective bargaining has been underway between the municipality and CUPE Local 108 Unit 1 since April 2016. The union membership includes over 300 municipal outside workers in various positions including labourers, facility maintainers and operators, gardeners, utility workers, tradespersons, painters, and traffic sign and marking technicians.
