Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to attend one of four upcoming public engagement sessions being held to solicit feedback on its current compost processing systems and operations.
The Halifax region has been extremely successful over the past 17 years with a robust compost management program, due in large part to the hard work and dedication of residents who utilize the curbside green bin program. As a result, our current compost facilities are operating at capacity, and the municipality also has to plan for new provincial composting guidelines that will go into effect in 2019-20.

*Please note two Halifax Transit tickets will be offered to all session participants to assist with travel costs.
The consultations are designed to gather input from residents about the most important aspects of the municipality’s current curbside compost management system, as well as ideas for change. The feedback collected will be used to inform a forthcoming Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from the municipality, seeking industry proposals for the future design and operation of our compost management system.
The RFQ will solicit proposals to provide modern compost management solutions that will increase current facility capacities, meet new provincial guidelines and address how current or new infrastructure can be used to ensure continued long-term success of the program.
