NATURAL RESOURCES–Fires Update, Thursday, Aug. 11

Following is a provincial fire update for Thursday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m.

-- the weather today looks to be more favourable, with a mix of sun and clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers. There is a risk of thundershowers in the afternoon, with winds out of the south west at 20 km/hr
-- the fire at Seven Mile Lake, Annapolis Co., is still active and at about 377 hectares. Crews are making progress and the fire remains 35 per cent contained
-- the fire at Ten Mile Lake, Queens Co., is being held at about 8.3 hectares
-- the fires at Perch Lake, Pictou Co., and Maitland Bridge, Annapolis Co., are being held and are 100 per cent contained at 10 hectares and 21 hectares respectively
-- the fires at Greenfield, Queens Co., West Dalhousie, Annapolis Co., Clyde River, Shelburne Co., Round Hill, Annapolis Co., are completely contained and are being patrolled
-- a smaller fire in Coldbrook, Annapolis Co., and three small fires near Morganville, Digby Co., are out and all were about 0.01 hectares
-- Trunk 8 remains closed due to active water bombing 
-- as of Aug. 9, travel and activities within the woods are restricted. People can still access beaches and provincial parks, but trail systems are restricted and the fire ban remains in effect
