One man faces drug charges after an arrest early this morning in Dartmouth.

At 1:27 a.m. officers assigned to the East Division Quick Response Unit arrested a man on Nivens Avenue. The officers, acting on information regarding possible drug activity, observed the man on foot and attempted to stop him, resulting in a brief foot pursuit. Once in custody, a subsequent search of the man resulted in a quantity of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia being seized.

Nineteen-year-old Stephan Demann Johnson of North Preston is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today charged with drug trafficking.

The Quick Response Unit is an important part of the Halifax Regional Police crime reduction strategy, with a separate unit for each of our three divisions.  The members in these Units usually work in a plain clothes capacity and address crime and quality-of-life issues.
