“I’m going to give you a little advice. There’s a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the burpee… Just be the burpee… Na na na na na…” — Caddyshack, 1980
So how was your first week of the “No Excuses 30 Day Burpee Challenge”? Mine’s been GREAT! I LOVE BURPEES!! Today was 19 and I think I almost died. I did a very heavy chest workout last night and it affected my ability to do them today, but I sucked it up and pushed through and got 19 in a row. Tomorrow should be interesting!
Gang, I have to say, I’m FLOORED by the response I’ve gotten with this challenge. I did it as something to motivate myself and to try and help motivate a few other people I knew needed it, but if all of the tweets, Facebook comments and comments on the blog are accurate, it looks like there are over 100 people participating in this challenge daily. I’m in awe! We’ve got people who didn’t know what a burpee was, personal trainers, people who are well in to their weight loss journey and people who are just getting in to physical fitness for the first time and I’m beyond proud of everyone who is participating and overwhelmed by the level of participation.
I think my favorite part of this whole thing is reading the tweets and blog posts cursing my name.
Now on to some fun and EXCITING stuff…
As some of you know I’m the Northern Canadian Community Manager for an amazing company called Be The Game Sports Wear. If you don’t know who they are, you can read about them here, but a quick summary is that we help kids, who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to get in to sports, have the opportunity to play sports with programs like the “Power of Sport Campaign” and our clothing line which we donate 10% of all sales back to help kids play minor sports.
NOW, the exciting part is that I’m getting my own T-Shirt. Be The Game has great campaign that is called “Be The Burpee” and Your Inner Skinny is partnering up with Be The Game to help bring it back using the “No Excuses 30 Day Burpee Challenge” as our starting point. It’s an opportunity to help kids get active, get in to minor sports and it also gets YOU active. It’s a win, win, WIN situation.
The shirts are going to have the “Be The Burpee” logo on the front and “No Excuses” across the back with the YIS and BTG logos. They’re going to come in simple white in both men and women’s styles and they’re going to ROCK. They’re going to be $25 each + $8 shipping and 10% of the profit is going right back to the kids. We’re working on the design as we speak and the second the design is done, I’ll post it.
You’re all a part of something great right now by getting yourself healthy and being a part of the “No Excuses 30 Day Burpee Challenge”, so why not do one more great thing and help kids get healthy and be active too.
