Nova Scotians are encouraged to share their input on the proposed amendments to the Municipal Government Act.

This is the first round of amendments as part of the ongoing review of the act which began in September.

“We had great public input through our consultation in the fall and hope to hear from more Nova Scotians on these proposed amendments,” said Municipal Affairs Minister Zach Churchill. “We are starting with small, housekeeping amendments while policy work continues on more complex issues.”

Nova Scotians can comment on proposed amendments online at http://novascotia.ca/dma . More may be added over the summer. The deadline for comments is Aug. 31.

The proposed amendments have also been shared with municipalities for input. The Department of Municipal Affairs is working closely with the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities, the Association of Municipal Administrators, and the Association of Nova Scotia Villages to review the act over the next few years.

More substantial amendments are anticipated for the spring 2017 session of the legislature.
