Office of Kelly Regan, MLA – upcoming events Dear Friends –

I want to draw your attention to some exciting events happening in our local community over the next month:

Wednesday, May 30th – The Scott Manor House (Fort Sackville Foundation) will be accepting donations for their upcoming book sale. Donations will be welcomed between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Donations can be taken to the Scott Manor House (15 Fort Sackville Road).

Wednesday, May 30th – Maskwa Aquatic Club will hold in-person registration for their Adventure Day Camps, non-member kiddie kayak program, and associate and full memberships. The registration takes place between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. You’re asked to call in advanced if you want to register; the phone number is 443-0178, ext. 221. You can also register online by going to the Maskwa Aquatic Club website.

Thursday, May 31st – The Halifax Regional Municipality will conduct a public meeting on the proposed Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes Regional Park. (The province legally protected 2/3 of the area several years ago; here’s hoping HRM will do the same.) The meeting takes place at St. Peter’s Church Hall (3 Dakin Drive). Doors open at 6:30pm, and the presentation will begin at 7:00pm, followed by a question and answer period. Please click here for more information on the proposed park.

Saturday, June 2nd – All Saints Anglican Church will host a lobster supper at the church (1408 Bedford Highway). Takeout meals begin at 3:00pm. Sit-down meals begin at 4:00pm inside the church hall. Tickets are $20 for the lobster supper; the church will provide a $5 kids menu, and you can purchase a ham dinner if you’re not a lobster fan. Please call 835-2605 to purchase tickets.

Saturday, June 2nd – The Halifax North West Trails Association will unveil their new information kiosk at the Canada Games Centre (26 Thomas Randall Drive) at 10:00am. The unveiling will be followed by light refreshments and an interpretive hike on the Mainland Common Loop, concluding around 12:00pm.

Saturday, June 2nd – Oceanview Drive and its surrounding neighbourhood will host their third annual yard sale between 8:00am and 11:00am – rain or shine.

Saturday, June 2nd – Bedford United Church (1200 Bedford Highway) will hold a yard sale between 8:00am and 12:00pm in support of church youth travelling to volunteer in the Gambia next year. You can drop off gently used items for the yard sale at the church on Friday, June 1st between 10:00am and 7:00pm.

Tuesday, June 4th – Bridgeway Academy will hold a pre-registration session for its day school and summer camps. Pre-registration takes place at the Bedford Public Library (15 Dartmouth Road) between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

Saturday, June 9th – The Ridgevale Homeowner’s Association will host its annual yard sale in the Ridgevale subdivision. The yard sale begins at 8:00am and ends at 1:00pm.

Thursday, June 14 to Saturday, June 16 – The Scott Manor House (Fort Sackville Foundation) will be hosting a book sale at the Scott Manor House (15 Fort Sackville Road). The book sale will take place between 4:00pm and 8:30pm on June 14 and 15, and between 10:00am and 4:00pm on June16.

Saturday, June 16th – Come celebrate Laura Osborne’s 21st birthday and help raise money for Bethany’s Hope at The Riverside Pub (1552 Bedford Highway). The event will raise money for research into Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), an incurable degenerative neurological disease; Laura was diagnosed with MLD while still in her teens. It’s Laura’s birthday wish to hold this fundraiser so we can defeat this disease. The event gets underway at 7:00 and will feature a 50/50 draw and silent auction. Saturday, June 16th – The Knights of Columbus will host their annual yard sale at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church Hall (1288 Bedford Highway) between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Saturday, June 16th – St. Peter’s Anglican Church will host a takeout dinner consisting of ham, salad, roll, & dessert. The dinner takes place between 4:00pm and 6:00pm at the church. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under twelve. Contact 443-8240 or 443-6291 for tickets.

Thursday, June 28th to Monday, July 2nd – will be the 2012 edition of Bedford Days! This year’s extravaganza will feature a teddy bear picnic, pancake breakfast, Canada Day celebrations, and a host of other events. Click here for more information on upcoming events during Bedford Days.

Sunday, July 1st – It’s the fifth annual Bedford 5k to Beat Lung Cancer. Registration is now open; you can register for the run by following this link. The kids run will begin at 8:15am and the full 5k route will begin at 8:30am. This year’s activities will feature face painting and tattoos for kids, local musicians, and their famous “Beat It” t-shirts available for sale.
