HRP release:

On April 26 at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft from the Superstore located at 6139 Quinpool Road in Halifax. The suspect was reported to have fled the scene on a bicycle.

A short time later, two officers driving a marked patrol vehicle spotted the suspect on Nora Bernard Street and activated their lights and siren. The bicycle turned onto Maynard Street and as police followed, they collided with the suspect and then subsequently collided with a power pole.

The suspect and an officer were transported to hospital. A second officer was treated by EHS.

The investigation is ongoing.

A 37-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at later date to face charges of theft under $5000.00 and possession of stolen property under $5000.00
