Media Advisory Official Opening of the Kiwanis Playground

Thursday, October 10, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Residents and media are invited to join Mayor Savage, Councillor Gloria McCluskey, Regional Councillors, the Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth and local children, for the official opening of HRM’s Kiwanis Playground in Ferry Terminal Park on the Dartmouth waterfront, Friday, October 11 at 11 a.m.

The playground is a project of HRM with support from the Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth. On July 23, 2013, Regional Council voted in favour of the renaming the Ferry Terminal Park Playground to Kiwanis Playground under its Asset Naming Policy, in recognition of the Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth’s community service record and their assistance with the project.

When: Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. Where: Ferry Terminal Park, 94 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth

The ship-themed playground has been custom designed to include activities for children ages 2 to 5 as well as the older groups up to age 12. The playground features a fully accessible rubber safety surface allowing mobility challenged children to take part in playground activities. The playground also offers a spinner that restricts speed for safety, and high-back seats to support users and provide transfer points for children who use wheelchairs or walkers.

All are invited to join in the celebration with cookies and healthy snacks, and take the opportunity to try out the new playground.
