Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal service levels in effect on Remembrance Day, Friday, Nov. 11:
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, will occur instead on the following Saturday, Nov. 12. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, but will be open regular operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The Household Special Waste Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 12, and will re-open on Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services:
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will be operating on holiday service on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. For detailed holiday schedules by individual route, visit www.halifax.ca/transit/Schedules/index.php.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:
The majority of municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. Please contact your individual facility in advance to confirm operating hours.
Parking:
On-street parking meter spaces are free on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, however motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage.
311 Citizen Contact Centres:
The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, and will re-open for regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 14.
The municipality encourages residents to take a moment on Nov. 11 to remember those who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.

As for other businesses, malls and major shopping centers will be closed.
Movie theaters and some entertainment centers may be open. Call ahead first.
Most coffee shops , gas stations and restaurant services will be open.
If in doubt, call ahead to ensure your destination will be open.
