‘Orphan Black’ is Back!

First of all, if you are not yet watching the series Orphan Black, go fix that. Right now. I’ll wait. There’s plenty of methods of finding the show.

It’s a sci-fi show, and I’m not a big sci-fi fan.

It’s a thriller, a cop drama, a mystery. It’s suspenseful and funny. It has many strong female characters, depicted by one freaking incredible actress. It’s a show everyone should watch.

Orphan Black is without a doubt, one of my favorite shows on TV right now. I’d forgotten how much I loved it, until yesterday – I caught the first and last episodes of season one before I sat down to watch the season two premiere.

Read on ONLY if you’ve watched that episode.

Wow! So much happened in “Nature Under Constraint and Vexed”, yet the hour flew by. We picked up right where season one left off, and Sarah was in a panic to find Mrs. S and Keira. We were quickly introduced to the creepy religious group that Helena was a part of, in a pretty intense showdown in a diner.

Most of this episode was about Sarah trying to outplay Rachel to get back Keira. Shegot help from Paul, and eventually snuck into a fancy DYAD Institute event disguised as Cosima. But in the end, it was revealed to be a ruse – Rachel never had Keira, she was just using Keira’s disappearance to lure Sarah in. It was the religious fanatics who took Sarah’s family.

Sarah is ready to tell Art everything, and I’m looking forward to him finally being in the loop. But the massive twist in this episode? Helena isn’t dead. She dragged herself, covered in blood and looking like a zombie, to the hospital and said “My sister shot me” before collapsing. Uh-oh.

Stray thoughts:

  • Among the things that made me happy in this episode were Felix butt-naked under his chaps at a nightclub, and Allison performing definitely-not-Cats at the local community theater.
  • Allison signed DYAD’s contract because she thought they would lift her monitor, and they didn’t. Cosima could be right behind her, but now we know Delphine cannot be trusted. Cosima wanted to keep her blood sample out of their hands, and Delphine was delivering it to them immediately.

Happy Easter
