Pet owner in Truro ticketed after leaving pet in hot car

On August 1st the Truro Police Service received a call regarding a dog left in a vehicle at the Truro Mall parking lot and that mall security were unable to locate the vehicle owner.

When our officers arrived they observed the dog was panting heavily and appeared to be in distress. Officers broke the rear window of the car, removing the dog and provided water to the dog.

Officers waited for approximately 20 minutes before the owner returned to her vehicle. The temperature at the time was 32 with the humidex, and of course this would be much warmer inside the vehicle as the windows were only open a crack.

When the owner of the vehicle returned she was charged and given a Summary Offence Ticket for violating the Animal Protection Act.

The Truro Police Service is appealing to all pet owners to please ensure you leave your pets at home where they are comfortable and not left alone in a vehicle.
