Petition Launched To Keep NSCAD Independent

NSCAD Exterior, Halifax

As it approaches its 125th anniversary the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design may be looking towards an uncertain future as the province's Dept. of Advance Education contemplates changes to its academic infrastructure.

The Coast has recently posted a link to an online petition hosted by change.org urging concerned students, faculty members and citizens to lend their signatures to the cause of keeping the university intact. The petition says that former government policy analyst Howard Windsor has been appointed by the Minister of Advance Education to review and determine the "fate" of the university.

To quote what is outlined in the petition this may include "…the termination of programs to wholesale or fragmented mergers with other provincial institutions." NSCAD is the oldest fine arts college in Canada and the only remaining independent fine arts institution.
