Fitness is all about finding what works for you and luckily, we live in a world that offers us many options.
In this day and age, fitness is only a click away with many fitness sites offering online classes; all done in the comfort of your own home. One of these great sites is called Pilates by Lisa.
Lisa is the lovely, Australian creator of Pilates by Lisa. She is able to add Pilates to the long list of fitness options in the digital world. As per wikipedia “Pilates is a body conditioning routine that may help build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back.It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance.”
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Lisa Pentony and I am a born and bred Australian girl with a passion for teaching Pilates and allowing others to experience it’s amazing benefits. I started my Pilates journey as a teenager, exercising with Pilates videos every morning before school. After finishing Mat and Equipment I, II and III Pilates qualifications with The Pilates Institute of Queensland, I started teaching a community class every week charging $7 per lesson and the rest is history! Our classes have expanded and to this day we still only charge $7 for our community classes so everyone can reap the benefits. We recently launched our online studio, Pilates By Lisa On Demand so that people from all over the world can access high quality Pilates classes for an affordable price, anytime, anywhere!
I love spending time with my amazing family, walking along the beach that’s right on my doorstep on the beautiful Gold Coast, Queensland, visiting restaurants and cafes, playing the piano, watching reality TV and, of course, Pilates!
A lot of women have heard about Pilates but are not aware of its many benefits. What are some important Pilates facts you would like us to know?
The amazing thing about Pilates is that anyone, no matter their age, size or fitness level, can take part and reap the outstanding benefits. It is low impact, effective and it can be as challenging or as gentle as you like due to the versatility of each exercise. Pilates exercises dramatically strengthen the core and pelvic floor, providing stability,
strength and support for the spine. This is especially beneficial for new and expecting mums as pelvic floor and transverse abdominal strength is crucial to maintain lower back health, prevent incontinence and return your body to optimal shape! If you want amazing posture, strength, balance, flexibility and a toned, taut figure, then Pilates is for you!
Why is health and fitness important to you?
Health and fitness is so important to me because I have seen the difference that it makes in people’s quality of life. I have seen so many clients who have never exercised before and don’t give their body the love and respect it deserves, they are unhappy, unmotivated and unwilling to make the changes they need to create the body and state of mind they deserve. Once they get hooked on Pilates, the difference is astounding. They stand taller and prouder, look happier and glow from
the inside. Combined with healthy eating and avoiding life’s little vices, they notice amazing progress and feel on top of the world. This is the most exciting thing I see, transformation and people changing their lives for the better. If everyone made small steps toward a healthy mind and body, the world would be a much fitter, happier and better place!
Who is your biggest inspiration?
My mum. She has been by my side from the get go and works 14-15 hour days to make sure that I always have the help and support I need in running my business. Not only does she help me make my business the best it can be, she also makes sure that my brother and I still have everything we’ve ever wanted. I pray every day that I’ll follow her footsteps and be even a fraction of the mother she has been to me. She is the most selfless person I know, not once has she ever hesitated, complained or turned me down, it never feels like I can thank her enough and I always strive to be more like her every day.
What advice would you give to other women?
Always make time for you. Life can be frantic these days with so many bills to pay, children, jobs, partners, social activities, household duties….it makes my head spin sometimes just thinking about it! Sometimes it’s easy to put other’s needs before ours, but health and fitness is so important and it’s crucial to designate time to looking after yourself. This is what I had in mind when I designed our online Pilates studio: Pilates By Lisa On Demand. Busy mums, travellers, college students and so many others can now get their Pilates workouts delivered to them in the comfort of their own home at any time that is
convenient to them! There is a complete library of streaming Pilates workouts available with members having complete access to any workouts they like! Making time to work on your health and body will allow you to sleep sounder, think with clarity, move with energy and feel happier, healthier and more alive!
