Police arrest nine impaired drivers in eight hours, Halifax, N.S.

Police in Halifax arrested nine impaired drivers while conducting checkpoints and responding to motor vehicle crashes overnight. On December 12th, at 7:00 p.m., Halifax District RCMP attended a single car crash on Hwy 7 in Porters Lake.

On December 12th, at 7:00 p.m., Halifax District RCMP attended a single car crash on Hwy 7 in Porters Lake.

At the scene, RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man from Porters Lake for impaired driving. The driver was transported to the Cole Harbour Office where he provided samples of his breath over the legal limit.

On December 13th, at midnight Halifax District RCMP were conducting a checkpoint on Cole Harbour Rd when a 32 year-old man from Sackville was arrested for impaired driving. The driver of a pick-up truck was brought to Cole Harbour Office where he refused to provide breath samples.

On December 13th, at midnight Halifax Regional Police and RCMP were conducting a joint checkpoint on Magazine Hill where a 23 year-old driver from Glen Haven was arrested for impaired driving and refusal to provide breath samples to officers.

At the same checkpoint on Magazine Hill a 63 year-old driver from North Preston was arrested for impaired driving and refusal to provide breath samples to officers.

On December 13th, at 12:45 a.m, Halifax District RCMP attended a two car collision on Highway 2 in Fall River. At the scene RCMP arrested a 21 year-old man from Elmsdale, for impaired driving. The driver was transported to the Lower Sackville Office where he provided samples of his breath almost three times over the legal limit.

On December 13th, at 1:00 a.m. at a check point on Cole Harbour Rd RCMP arrested a 28 year-old man from Dartmouth for impaired driving after he tried to avoid the checkpoint. The car was located and the man was arrested. The man provided samples of his breath over the legal limit.

On December 13th, at 1:00 a.m., Halifax District RCMP, assisted by Halifax Police K-9 Unit, responded to a motor vehicle collision in Eastern Passage. A car travelling on Main Road struck a guard rail and a 38 year-old woman from Cole Harbour was arrested at the scene. The woman provided samples of her breath three times over the legal limit.

On December 13th, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Halifax Regional Police arrested one impaired driver in Halifax and one impaired driver in Dartmouth. Both drivers are attending Halifax Regional Police stations for Breath Tests.

All the people arrested tonight will face impaired driving related charges and will appear in court in January 2015.

Police would like to remind the public to act responsibly. If you plan to drink, plan in advance, call a cab, arrange for an overnight stay or call a friend or relative to come and pick you up.

If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 with the license plate information, location, vehicle type and colour, as well as the direction of travel.
