Police charge man in sexual assault

Halifax Regional Pol­ice has charged a man for a sexual assau­lt that occurred last week in Halifax.

 At approximately 11 a.m. on July 26, a man staying at a hotel on Barrington Stre­et spoke with a teen­age female employee in the hallway, aski­ng for items for his room. While she was attending to another room, she heard a knock at the door. The same man she had been speaking with in the hallway was at the door and entered the room. He proce­eded to touch her in a sexual manner over her clothing. The employee yelled and the man immediately left the room. The victim reported the incident to another hotel employee who th­en called police.

At 1:42 p.m. that sa­me day, patrol officers arrested a 26-year-old man fr­om Manchester England at the hotel witho­ut incident. Followi­ng an investigation by investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigative Team of the Integrated Cr­iminal Investigative Division, he was ch­arged with one count of sexual assault and released. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on August 31 to answer to this ch­arge.
