Police charge man in significant assault at correctional facility

  A man faces charges in relation to an assault which took place earlier this week at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.
 
A man faces charges in relation to an assault which took place earlier this week at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.
On March 10 at approximately 10:40 p.m., there was an assault involving two offenders who were in the same cell together at the Dartmouth facility. The victim, a 19-year-old Lower Sackville man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where he remains at this time.
 
As a result of the investigation into this assault, investigators in the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division laid charges against 20-year-old Tyrico Thomas Smith. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday, March 16 to face a charge of aggravated assault as well as one count of breaching a probation order and two counts of breaching a recognizance.
