Police investigate fatal house fire

Cumberland County District RCMP, supported by the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, is investigating a fatal house fire.

At approximately 3:58 p.m. on March 21, police, fire and EHS responded to a structure fire on Hansford Rd. in Hansford. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a home fully engulfed in flames. They learned four people were inside the residence when the fire started; three people were able to escape, while one person was unaccounted for.

Once the fire was extinguished, the remains of a 24-year-old woman were located inside the home.   

At this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious. The investigation is ongoing.
