Police Investigate Fraud – Eastern Passage

Police are investigating a complaint that resulted in a woman being defrauded of $9000.

A woman from Eastern Passage received a phone call yesterday that led to her transferring $9000 to an unknown suspect. She was told that she won a prize of $950,000 in a lottery and in order to claim the prize money, she had to send the $9000 first. She transferred the money then realized that it was a scam.

Police would like to remind the citizens to exercise caution when being asked money over the phone. If you suspect that something is not quite right, hang up immediately and either contact your local police department or the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at either 1-888-495-8501 orinfo@antifraudcentre.ca.
