Halifax Regional Police is investigating an incident where a man approached a young girl and assaulted her outside a school in Dartmouth today.
Just before 3 p.m., police responded to a field near John McNeil Elementary School located at 62 Leaman Drive for a suspicious person call. At approximately 2:45 p.m., an unknown man assaulted a 10-year-old girl who was walking home. The man jumped out of the bushes near the baseball field and grabbed the young girl by the arm. She broke free and then the male hit the girl in the stomach. The girl ran away and told her babysitter what had happened, who then called police. The girl was not physically injured but EHS did assess her as a precaution.
The suspect is described a male wearing a black hoodie, face mask with eye and mouth holes, blue jeans, black gloves, and black foot wear. Witnesses saw a man walking from the area of the school toward Highfield Park Drive. Patrol members and a K9 officer patrolled the area but were unable to locate the man.
The investigation is in its early stages and anyone who has information about this incident and/or can identify the suspect is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016.
