Police lay charges following assault and break and enter

Halifax District RCMP were called to Middle Sackville shortly after 6 a.m. this morning following the report of a homeowner on Heather Street being sprayed with an irritant after confronting a man who had broken into his shed and smashed out his bedroom window.

The suspect fled on foot but was located a short time later by RCMP and HRP members with help from the Police Dog Service.

An 18-year-old man from Lower Sackville faces charges of Assault with a Weapon, Mischief , Break and Enter, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (the irritant) and Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous Purpose. He remains in custody pending appearance in Dartmouth Provincial Court tomorrow.

The homeowner, who was the only occupant of the residence when the incident occurred, was treated by EHS at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.
