The province has approved the 2013-14 business plans of Nova Scotia’s nine district health authorities and IWK.

For 2013-14, government asked district health authorities and IWK to target no increase in health care funding.

Districts health authorities were asked to focus on innovation and efficiency to provide better care within the current budget.

The authorities were expected to minimize the impact on patients, to protect quality care.

“Nova Scotia needs a health care system that is well planned and well managed,” said Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine. “The DHAs have demonstrated strong leadership through the budget process. They have been successful in finding ways to use resources wisely.”

The authorities received $1.6 billion from the province, meaning no net budget reduction.
