Province Supports Upgrades to Pictou Water System

The province continues to support healthier communities with improved, modern infrastructure through the Provincial Capital Assistance Program.

“This investment will help keep Pictou vibrant and healthy, and ensure a better quality of life for residents and families,” said Energy Minister Charlie Parker, on behalf of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister John MacDonell.

“Improving and modernizing aging infrastructure is a priority and this investment will create local jobs and contribute to the local economy.”

The province is investing $250,000 to help refurbish the town’s water tower. The total cost of the project is $500,000.

Through the Provincial Capital Assistance Program, the province contributes towards the cost of high priority municipal infrastructure. Last month, the province announced $3.5 million in support for 11 municipalities.

Annual funding is limited, so applications are ranked according to factors such as the severity of problems the projects address. Requests for projects that eliminate serious environmental and health problems receive priority.
