May 9, 2012, Pictou County, Nova Scotia . . . Pictou RCMP have laid charges against two males after they jumped from a moving train.

 

Early this morning, just after 1:00 a.m., Pictou County RCMP received a 911 distress call from a male who had just jumped from a moving train with another male in the Pine Tree area of Pictou County.  Both males were reported to be injured.  RCMP, Linacy and Thorburn Fire Departments along with EHS located the two males and both were transported to the Aberdeen Hospital with undetermined injuries.  One has since been transported to the QEII Hospital in Halifax. 

 

The initial investigation revealed the men were waiting for a cab in New Glasgow and decided to board a moving train which was traveling through the town.  The pair were unable to get off the train at their intended stop as the train gained speed, preventing them from jumping.  The operators of the train were unaware of the situation and continued along their route.  As the train slowed for a curve in the Pine Tree area, the men decided to jump as they were now quite far from their intended destination.

 

A 25-year old male and a 20-year-old male, both from New Glasgow, have both been charged with Entering on Railway Line Premises contrary to section 3(1)(ba) of the Protection of Property Act.  The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
