Quick action of motorist results in arrest of impaired driver

Halifax District RCMP arrested an impaired driver on Highway 102 yesterday afternoon after receiving a 911 call from a concerned motorist who was following a vehicle that was swerving all over the road and hitting the shoulder.

Prior to 2 p.m. Tuesday, RCMP located the vehicle at Exit 7 on Highway 102 and determined the driver, a 33-year-old man from Lake Echo, was also prohibited from driving. As a result, he is facing Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over the Legal Limit and Driving While Prohibited. The driver’s blood alcohol readings were almost four times over the legal limit. He was later released and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.

“We applaud the concerned motorist for having called 911 after suspecting the driver was impaired,” says Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP. “With the weather conditions yesterday, coupled with the impairment, it could have been a different outcome.”
