Halifax Regional Police is advising citizens about a trend involving
theft of bikes over the last few weeks in Halifax.

As part of our Community Response Model of Policing, our Integrated
Criminal Operations Section, which analyzes crime statistics, has noted
a trend involving bike thefts. Over the last three weeks there have been
13 incidents of bicycle theft on the Halifax Peninsula. In some cases,
the bikes were locked up and in other cases they were not.

Bicycle owners are encouraged to take all precautions when securing
their bikes. Taking a picture of your bike and making note of the serial
number will assist the police investigation in the event your bike is
stolen. It will also help in locating the owner of the bike if it is
recovered. Residents are also asked to call police if they see someone
trespassing or acting suspiciously.
