RCMP officers trade Red Serge for Pink Shirt

RCMP officers trade Red Serge for Pink Shirt RCMP officers across Nova Scotia are trading in their Red Serge for a Pink Shirt in support of anti- bullying awareness.

Day of Pink (Sea of Pink) was born when a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scotia was bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. When fellow students witnessed the bullying, they invited other students to come to school the next day, wear a pink shirt, and take a stand against bullying.

Fellow students decided to stand up to bullying; and hundreds of students came to school the next day wearing pink in support of their fellow student. Together, creating “sea of pink”, students took a stand against bullying and called for the support of diversity to end discrimination, bullying and homophobia.

Cst. Dal Hutchinson RCMP Community Policing in Amherst says, “You don’t have to be a police officer to put an end to bullying. Pink Shirt Day is a great example of how youth can lead within their own communities to raise awareness about bullying. Together we have the power to stop it.”

RCMP officers across the province will be visiting schools to deliver presentations and participate in events.
