RCMP on scene of fatal house fire in Pictou County

​ Pictou District RCMP​ remain on the scene of​ a fatal​ house fire​ in Willowdale,​ Nova Scotia.

At 5:55 p.m. yesterday, Pictou District RCMP responded to​ a call of​ a house on fire on Hwy 347 in Willowdale. Police arrived and were met by East River St. Mary’s Volunteer Fire Department already on the scene. The main level of the residence had collapsed into the basement of the structure and a vehicle parked near the residence was completely damaged by the fire. The RCMP is in the preliminary stages of their investigation and​ can confirm the remains of one person were located inside the residence.

One lane of the highway was closed until 11 p.m. last night and we are asking that you avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Pictou District RCMP with assistance from the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshall.
