RCMP Operation Hancock results in multiple drug trafficking charges, Halifax, N.S.

Nova Scotia RCMP have arrested six individuals following a seven month investigation into international drug trafficking.

In July 2014, the RCMP received information related to international drug trafficking. An investigation began that uncovered evidence pointing to the importation and trafficking of cocaine from Panama into the Port of Halifax which was destined for Canadian cities.

Six individuals were arrested yesterday without incident, and charged with the following:

· Paul Matthew Arthur, age 59 of East Pennant
o Conspiracy to Traffick CDSA (cocaine)
o Attempting to Import a Controlled Substance (cocaine)
o Trafficking of a Scheduled Substance (cocaine)
o Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)

· Warren Patrick Clarke, age 46 of West Pennant, John ‘Dallas’ Carleton Dempsey, age 46 of Halifax, Justin Carleton Dempsey, age 22 of Mount Uniacke , Peter Stanley Albert Wood, age 38 of Dartmouth
o Conspiracy to Traffic CDSA (cocaine)
o Trafficking of a Scheduled Substance (cocaine)
o Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)

· Steven Welsford Jollimore, age 51 of Terrance Bay
o Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.

Canadian Border Services Agency and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) provided assistance to the Nova Scotia RCMP Federal Serious & Organized Crime Unit during the course of this investigation.

‘Today’s arrests have removed six individuals from the drug trade in Nova Scotia,’ says Insp. Glenn Lambe, RCMP Federal and Serious Organized Crime Unit. ‘Through assistance with our partners, we were able to significantly interrupt potential contraband from making its way onto our streets.’

Paul Arthur was remanded and will appear at Halifax Provincial Court at 10:00 a.m. The five other individuals were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on March 26th, 2015.
