This Thanksgiving weekend, police agencies across Canada will be taking part in Operation Impact – a national road safety campaign aimed at saving lives and reducing injuries on our roadways.
Operation Impact is a Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police National Road Safety Initiative that takes place from October 10th -13th.
As Nova Scotia’s Provincial Police, the RCMP will be actively involved in Operation Impact by having a strong presence through highway patrols and coordinated checkpoints throughout Nova Scotia.
‘The Thanksgiving long weekend often leads to increased traffic on our roadways,’ says Cpl. Scott MacRae of RCMP Halifax Metro Traffic Services. ‘It’s a great opportunity for us to get out and reinforce the importance of safe driving habits with Nova Scotians. We don’t want to see anyone become a statistic.’
Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services’ focus is on the four main primary causal factors of fatal and serious injury from motor vehicle collisions; impaired driving, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding/aggressive driving and driver inattention/distraction.
Heading into the long weekend, the RCMP are asking motorists to please buckle up, keep your eyes on the road, give yourself extra time to reach your destination and slow down. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
