Reed et.al. v. Province of Nova Scotia

An independent human rights board of inquiry into the matter of Warren Reed, Ben Marston, Paul Vienneau, Jeremy MacDonald and Kelly McKenna v. Province of Nova Scotia will begin July 5 in Halifax.

The complainants allege discrimination on the part of the Department of Environment for not enforcing what they view is a law requiring restaurant owners to have accessible washroom facilities if they have an outdoor patio for the summer.

The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Best Western Chocolate Lake, 250 St. Margaret’s Bay Rd., Halifax.

Board chair Gail Gatchalian will oversee the inquiry.

The chair has granted the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia intervenor status on this matter. The intervenor status grants the right to participate in the proceedings and provide comment on the legal issues being considered.
