Monday, June 29, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – School is out and summer is in full swing — what better way to enjoy these days than at the beach with family and friends?

For three years running, Birch Cove Beach in Dartmouth is the only beach in Nova Scotia to ever receive the prestigious Blue Flag, an internationally recognized and respected eco-certification awarded annually to beaches and marinas around the world.

Now that’s something to celebrate!

Municipal beaches across the Halifax region officially open tomorrow and the Halifax Regional Municipality would like to invite residents and visitors to join us Tuesday, July 7, for a celebration of Birch Cove Beach on Lake Banook.

There will be face painting, activities with the municipal R.E.C. Van, a visit from the C100 Subway Summer Street Team and much more! The fun gets underway at 1 p.m. and will continue until about 3 p.m. In the event of bad weather, all events will be moved to Thursday, July 9, at the same time.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy a day at the beach. Visitors know that when they see the Blue Flag at Birch Cove, they are visiting a beach that is clean and environmentally sustainable, with excellent water quality and facilities and services that people the world over look for when travelling.
