Residents invited to honour the memory of Petty Officer 2nd Class Craig Blake at park renaming

  Thursday, September 19, 2013 – On Saturday, September 21, the public is invited to join Mayor Mike Savage, Councillor Darren Fisher, and honoured guests the Blake Family and Admiral John Newton, for the renaming of Montebello Park in Dartmouth to "P02 Craig Blake Memorial Park".

 

 

Thursday, September 19, 2013 – On Saturday, September 21, the public is invited to join Mayor Mike Savage, Councillor Darren Fisher, and honoured guests the Blake Family and Admiral John Newton, for the renaming of Montebello Park in Dartmouth to “P02 Craig Blake Memorial Park”.

The renaming is part of Regional Council’s recent approval a number of naming requests.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Craig Blake was a member of the Canadian Navy who served with the Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic, Nova Scotia. During his first tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2010, Petty Officer 2nd Class Blake, a married father of two, was killed by an improvised explosive device. He had only been in the country for a few weeks. The renaming of the park, honours his service to his community and country.

The official ceremony begins at noon with a Sea King flypast at 12:20 p.m., followed by a community barbeque. Musician Cory Tetford will perform during the ceremony.

P02 Craig Blake Memorial Park, former Montebello Park, 110 Appian Way, Dartmouth.

The HRM Asset Naming Administrative Order allows any person or group to apply for a commemorative name for HRM assets, particularly streets, parks or buildings.
