A man and a woman face charges after a violent robbery last night in Halifax.

At 9:30 p.m. officers responded to a robbery call in the 2100 block of Barrington Street. A 43-year-old male victim was approached by a man and a woman known to him, and was severely beaten. The suspects fled the area on foot after stealing the victim’s money. The victim made his way to a nearby business and called police. He was transported to hospital by EHS where he was treated for serious facial injuries. Investigators believe this incident was drug related and wasn’t random.

This morning, at 4:40 a.m., both suspects were arrested without incidents at a residence in the 2100 block of Gottingen Street. Twenty-Seven-year-old Martin Andrew Ross and 33-year-old Holly Lynn MacDonald, both from Halifax, are each facing a charge of robbery and breaching a court order. Ross also faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm. They were both held in custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
