Scam Warning

HRM Partners in Policing would like to warn citizens of a new scam.

The HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit has received several complaints from people who have received calls from someone trying to sell an item.

The device, which does not exist, will supposedly reduce a person’s energy use, which in turn will result in a lower bill.

The caller then asks for credit card information in order to complete the transaction. Fortunately none of our complainants were taken in by the scam.

Citizens are reminded not give money or personal information to anyone, whether solicitation occurs by telephone or in person, unless you have initiated the contact or you are certain of the identification of the individual and the legitimacy of the organization they claim to represent.
