The library’s book club is a great way to meet new people, explore new authors and share reading ideas.
Tuesday, September 29, 2pm-The Book of Negroes, by Lawrence Hill. Registration begins August 25.
Tuesday, October 27, 2pm-Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson. Registration begins September 29.

Wednesday, October 7 & 21, 6:30-8:30pm.

Join Bryan Brooks from the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq and traditional dancer Ashley Julian as they talk about artifacts and entertain you with dances in celebration of Mi’kmaq Heritage Month. Learn how Aboriginal People hunted the mastodon and experience the traditional Shawl Dance. Registration required, call 490-5757.

Join reference librarian Joanne McCarthy to learn the first steps of genealogy research, including getting organized and exploring records found at home. Registration required, call 490-5757.

Wednesday, September 16, 7pm.

Get help with your English language skills at volunteer tutor programs sponsored by Halifax Libraries and the Nova Scotia Department of Immigration.

The programs are free and open to:

-Permanent residents of Canada.
-Canadian citizens born outside of Canada (though services to recent immigrants to Nova Scotia will be given priority.
-Protected persons as defined in Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
-Foreign nationals temporarily residing in Nova Scotia who have been nominated (received Certificate of Nomination) under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program and their dependants.

An introduction to navigating the Internet and using a web browser. Prerequisite: Beyond the Basics or basic mouse, keyboard and Windows skills.

An advanced level course. Learn to build a more effective Google search using special features. Prerequisite: Internet Searching Made Easy or proficiency with Internet searching.

Teen Wii Tournament Season-Ages 13-19. The season begins in October with Mario Kart, followed by other games in the upcoming months. Winners of each event will qualify for the championship round in March, with a chance to win great prizes like Nintendo DS or an iPod shuffle. Everyone will get several chances to play!

Drop by to play board game favourites like checkers, Snakes & Ladders, Scrabble Junior and more.

Sunday, October 18, 2-4pm.

Baby & Tot Time. Ages 0-35 months. Join the adventure as we listen to stories, learn new songs and share in interactive play.

Just for Twos. Age 2. Crawl through the magic tunnel to enter a world of imagination through stories, rhymes, instruments and crafts.

Alternate Thursdays, 10:15-11am. September 10-November 19. Registration begins September 3.

Salut! French Playgroup Drop-in. Ages 0-5. Come by for a relaxing playtime. Socialize and play using French books, toys and other materials. Venez vous amuser!

Tuesdays, 11:15am-12pm. September 8-November 17.

Storytime for ages 3-5. Stories, songs, finger-plays and rhymes help children in this program gain pre-reading skills and develop a love of reading.

Fridays, 10:30am. September 18-November 20.

Musical Munchkins for ages 3-5. Take Symphony Nova Scotia musicians; add preschoolers and you get a fun and interactive introduction to music and movement! After the musicians introduce their instruments, the children will experience different styles of music through movement, games and a dancing finale. Co-sponsored by Symphony Nova Scotia and Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline.
