“The Muslim community of Halifax, in partnership with the Ummah Masjid, is proud to present the third annual Share the Spirit of Ramadan! Last year we raised over $10,000 to support Feed NS, Adsum House, Byrony House, Metro Turning Point, Pheonix Youth Program, Bayers Westwood Family Resource centre, Parker Street Food Bank and more!
Our mission is to fill as many reusable shopping bags with food and toiletry items as possible and divide the total among several local charities. The event will take place on Sunday June 18, 2017 at Mic Mac Mall in front of the Bay.
You’re invited to participate. You have the option of going out to buy the items (There are 14 items: pasta, pasta sauce, vegetables, fruit, tuna, rice, sugar, salt, oil, red beans, cereal, pancake mix, toothpaste, soap) or donate $20 and have us purchase the items, package them and then deliver them to the local charities.
Significance of the event:
The event will be held during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, in which hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide participate by fasting without food or drink from dawn to dusk, so we know a bit about what hunger can feel like. We would like to invite you to celebrate kindness and compassion by helping feed the needy in our wonderful community of Halifax.
We will have face painting, treats and other activities for kids to celebrate this joyous event!
