Shoe Porn Monday: A family of shoes

L-A: Today’s shoes come from some good friend’s of ours.  Since they submitted shoes for the entire family, I decided that today will be a family affair. So, meet the Gerkins (not their real name) and meet their shoes:

Aldo - The brown shoes. I had a couple years of internal struggle before I decided I could wear loafers. It's the word "loafers" that turned me off. What kind of person wear's loafers? I guess I am. Brogues! - These are 10 years old and have been resoled twice. I'm pretty fond of them. They lace right up the calf. When I bought them, I was in the habit of wearing extra heavy (extra itchy) wool socks with my kilt. Now I have skinnier socks and they're a bit too big. Feet First - In my mind, you need black shoes, brown shoes, casual shoes, winter boots, summer sandals. These are the black shoes. I really wish this was the kind of city with sidewalk shoe shiners. I would definitely take advantage of that service on a regular basis. Chuck Taylors - purchased as groomsman footwear. I wear these to shows sometimes to try to blend in with the hipsters, but they're really uncomfortable. Chucks are obvisously made for basketball players with long flappy feet. Aldo - I think my casual shoe selection was subconsciously influenced by Mitchell Irons'. Rockports - I think these were bought when we visited PEI shortly after our wedding. So they've seen four summers of regular wear and have even survived the Amazonian jungle. Chisel-toed Blundstones - These are obviously well-loved. My favourite part: they're "stout brown" (like Guinness) so they seem to work with brown or black pants. Why yes, these are crocheted Chuck Taylors Bear Boots Denim slippers Squeaky heeled striped dress shoe - Calgary Chinatown Squeaky Heeled Oxfords - Calgary Chinatown Giraffe Robeez -O has also owned dragon Robeez, and has train ones and octopus ones that still do not fit. Blue Fleece Boots Tiny Blue Keds deck shoes Hush Puppies Franco Sarto - From Eden. These broke the first time I wore them. Then I had them repaired. And they broke the first time I wore them. I am giving them one more chance because they are so lovely. Bought in Brazil - These sandals man... they have done Rio. They have done Ilha Grande, they have wandered the streets of Sao Paulo. They went to the Amazon Rainforest. They broke. I had them repaired for $5 in Lima... I wore them two more summers. And now that I have photographed them, I know they are dead. Farewell beautiful travellers. Feet First Backup shoes from Toronto's Chinatown - Cute, but no fun to walk in. Purchased for $1 in a church basement - Worn to death. I consigned these to be tossed after shooting them. Vagabond - From Eden, at a clothing swap. Strappy Flowered Sandals - From Eden - borrowed to wear to a wedding and then she gave them to me! Joe Fresh - These have since hit the to-go pile. They hurt my feet. Tevas - So cute! So comfortable! Shoe Company Steve Madden - Frenchy's - These are probably on their last legs, but I have worn them more than enough times to justify the less than $10 I spent on them. Steve Madden - Frenchy's - Do I need two pairs of brown round-toed pumps? But I love them both! Nine West - Salvation Army Mephisto - I bought a pair of these to travel to South America in and I wore them all over the place. They were one hell of a sneaker. Then they were pretty battered and not so supportive anymore, but I still liked them, so I bought another pair. Unisa - L-A's mother bought these for me in California. They were briefly contenders for wedding shoes to match my butter-yellow dress. Can't remember the brand - Shoe Company Bought in downtown Lima for $7 - because I needed something to wear to dinner Payless - Wore these to my wedding! Chuck Taylor Knockoffs - I purchased these for like $3 about 15 years ago... Flip flops - Yellow ones are Joe Fresh, Black ones I got from my sister. Le Chateau - Backup shoes purchased at a Le Chateau outlet in downtown Quebec City. Ok, yes, so these are Crocs - They were purchased one summer when the super-cute Payless green round-toed open-mid shoe with ankle strap failed horribly in Winnipeg and I needed something comfy, quick. Now that I'm home, I only read them in the yard and the basement. Don't recall Brand - Winners - Part of the work collection Blundstones - Winsby's - 2004 - The best winter boot's I've owned to date. Including the 20-hole Doc Marten's I never wore because it took for-freaking-ever to get in and out of them.

I liked that while she was photographing shoes, Rhia decided that it was time for some of her shoes to go (which means room for more shoes, of course). Look at that! Shoe porn is not only fun, but a service!
