On August 6th, 2011, at approximately 3:40 am, members of the Halifax District RCMP and Halifax Regional Police responded to a call of a shooting on Westmount Dr in Westphal.   Officers responding to this location located a 22 year old victim on the roadway who was transported to hospital where he underwent surgery for a serious, but not life threatening, gun shot wound.  The suspect fled the area of the shooting but officers cordoned off a large area near Ross Road and Glendale and were able to convince the suspect to surrender.  RCMP, HRP and K9 officers took the 20 year old suspect into custody a 6:30 am.
 
The shooting was not a random act and suspect and victim were known to each other.  The RCMP/HRP integrated GIS unit is continuing the investigation and members are currently at the crime scene on Westmount Dr in Westphal.
