The RCMP would like to advise the motoring public that Southampton Road in west Amherst is closed until further notice.

At 8:00 a.m., Cumberland District RCMP along with Emergency Health Services and Fire responded to a crash involving a single car.

The driver has been taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and an RCMP Traffic Analyst has been called in to assist with the investigation. RCMP expect the road to be closed for several hours. Motorists are advised to use Boomer Loop Road as an alternate.
