Burrito Wednesday on Thursday

store_f3Over the past 4 or 5 months, and if you follow me on Twitter, you will have seen me talking about Burrito Wednesday (using the hashtag #BurritoWednesday) at least once a week. Burrito Wednesday is something we do at work every week where about 20 of us place an order in to Burrito Jax in downtown Halifax and get a shipment of burritos delivered to us.

I discovered Burrito Jax in December, when at the time I worked downtown, and because I never take a lunch with me to work, I was out wandering around looking for a place to eat. I must have walked by this place 100 times and not noticed it before, because it’s not the biggest spot and they don’t do much advertising, so I had never heard of it. I‘m not sure why, but that day I decided to give them a try; I think it’s because I’m a HUGE fan of wraps and sandwiches and I thought a burrito was just like a wrap. Man, was I wrong. The burrito may resemble a wrap at first glance but trust me, it’s SO much more. It does have everything I want and need in a wrap, with the meat and veggies, but add in beans, guacamole, sweet potato, hot sauce, cranberry salsa and grill it… Sweet mother of GOD, this is no wrap, it’s heaven in my mouth! The day I discovered Burrito Jax is the day to which I now consider to be one of the greatest days of my life and one of the greatest discoveries by man, EVER!

In February I started my current job which is in Bayers Lake and 20 minutes from downtown. When I was making the decision to move from downtown Halifax to Bayers Lake, I honestly weighed in the fact that I knew I’d be missing out on a lot of great places to eat in the downtown core, Burrito Jax being at the top of my list. Unfortunately, what my daily lunch plans were couldn’t keep me away from a great job, so out to Bayers Lake and away from my new discovery I went.

On the Tuesday of my first week at my new job someone said to me “Bring in some money tomorrow, it’s burrito Wednesday”. I didn’t know what this meant, so I asked “Burrito Wednesday? Is there a burrito place out here?” The response I got made me so happy, I almost cried. “No, we order from Burrito Jax and they deliver to us.” I was floored and my life hasn’t been the same since and either have my Wednesdays!

Keeping Your Burrito Healthy

It’s easy to slap everything and anything on your burrito and have the calories pile on. Cheese, sour cream, burrito sauce, white rice… The list goes on and on. I always order a large Jax Chicken on the whole wheat tortilla and pass on the cheese, sour cream, burrito sauce and white rice and I get a small guacamole instead of the large, which keeps my burrito at about 500 calories.
