A month without booze: Week 1

Here I am, into week 2 of my “A month without booze” challenge and I’m feelin’ awesome!!!  I did a weigh-in last night and even though I’m not down any pounds, I’m starting to notice some of my tone come back.  This makes sense as I’ve been lifting heavy weight and doing some cardio which means I’m burning fat and building muscle at the same time.

For those of you who don’t know, muscle weighs more than fat.  This is something you need to keep in mind if you’re doing weight training and not noticing any losses on the scale.  Hell, I’ve had weeks where I’ve eaten right, hit the gym every day and ended up putting on weight.   Knowing this simple little fact (muscle weighs more than fat) can help you through those weeks mentally.  As long as you’re being true to your diet, working out and you know that you’re doing everything right, you can’t get discouraged about not losing or maybe even gaining weight in a week.

Last week I hit the gym Wednesday to Friday, ate the best I have in a long, long time and did a “cheat meal” Friday night.  My cheat meal wasn’t actually that unhealthy, I just ate a lot.  GOD I LOVE THAI FOOD!   It was great to wake up both Saturday and Sunday without a hangover or being foolishly tired.  Saturday I played in a volleyball tournament (lost in the cross-over’s) and then stayed in and watched a movie and chilled out and Sunday I woke up feeling energized and made an amazing omelet for breakfast, had my coffee, went to Lululemon, went for a run and played hockey.  Such a friggin’ great weekend!!!  The things you can do when you don’t hate your life, because of the night before, are amazing!

I took yesterday off as a recovery day, but I’m back to the gym tonight, going to Gymstick Fusion Flow with Ambassador Tracy Cipryk at Lululemon Halifax tomorrow night to try something different and I’d like to get a yoga class in and at least one run in this week as well.

I’m feeling great right now and loving that I’m back at all of this full steam ahead.  My hips and back are pretty sore from trying to run (due to my motorcycle accident a few years ago) but I’m trying to push through it anyway.  We’ll see how that pans out.

I’ll keep you updated as to my progress and let you know if I fail at anything (FYI, I won’t fail!).  Thanks for all of the support you’ve all be sharing with me!
