Stanely Cup Fever

August? Stanley Cup fever?

No, I’m not a bookish sort that has no idea about sports (well, actually I am, but that’s not what’s going on here) – I’m talking about the Stanley Cup Celebration that is happening on Friday in Cole Harbour.

As part of Stanley Cup tradition, players on the winning team each get to spend 24 hours with the Cup in their possession. Local hockey hero – and Pittsburgh Penguins Captain – Sidney Crosby is bringing the Stanley Cup home to HRM for a day. There are lots of events happening to celebrate: HRM has a list of them here.

If you can’t make it to Cole Harbour – or if like me, you need to brush up on your hockey and Stanley Cup lore — you might want to check out these titles:
Legendary Stanley Cup Stories by Brian McFarlane

Travels with Stanley by The Keepers of the Cup

Lord Stanley: the Man Behind the Cup by Kevin Shea

There are also a couple of recent biographies of Sidney Crosby you might be interested in:

Sidney Crosby: A Hockey Story
by Paul Arseneault with Paul Hollingsworth
The Kid : a season with Sidney Crosby and the new NHL by Shawna Richer

Or you might want to check out biographies of other Canadian hockey players, of which the library has many.
