Strengthening Supports for Nova Scotias Children and Families

Families living in the Fairview area of Halifax Regional Municipality will gain access to the Parenting Journey program as part of Stronger Families Nova Scotia, a provincial expansion of support for parents and children.Patricia Arab, MLA Fairview-Clayton Park, on behalf of Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard, announced the new location for the program today, Feb. 18."Being a parent is one of life's greatest gifts, but it's not without its challenges. This funding will help parents in Fairview-Clayton Park raise healthier and happier children," said Ms. Arab.Community Services is enhancing prevention and early intervention programs in child welfare. The goal is to work closer with community partners to meet the diverse needs of families in need of support. Working with families earlier makes it possible to identify problems, strengths and solutions before more serious situations develop. "Parenting can be compared to a delicate flower – with careful nurturing, it will grow into something beautiful," said Deborah Marriott, interim director, Fairview Family Resource Centre. "By adding Parenting Journey to our offerings, we'll be able to reach many more families in the neighbourhood." Funding for the expansion of the successful program is part of the $1.2 million announced in November to strengthen early intervention and prevention programs."I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact this programming will have here at Fairview Family Resource Centre and in the larger community," said Ms. Arab.
