Students and teachers from across the province are promoting the importance of building healthy relationships today, Sept. 12.

The province and its education partners recognize the second Thursday in September as Stand Up Against Bullying Day by hosting a variety of anti-bullying activities including discussions, contests, assemblies and team-building events.

“Bullying, in all its forms, is a heartbreaking and complex problem with no easy answers,” said Kathleen Richard, provincial anti-bullying coordinator. “At the start of the school year, it is important to have an opportunity to talk to, and teach, students about healthy relationships, diversity, respect and positive behaviours.”

Students at Five Bridges Junior High in Hubley had an opportunity today to share their ideas on how to address bullying and cyberbullying with Ms. Richard.

“I am happy to see heightened awareness of the root causes of bullying,” said Ramona Joseph, principal of Five Bridges Junior High. “We work to help students build healthy relationships, both in and out of school and find more positive, proactive solutions to problems.”
