Suspect in two separate robberies at Shoppers Drug Store charged

Police have charged a man in relation to two incidents that occurred earlier this year in Halifax.

On January 8 officers responded to a robbery that had occurred at the Shoppers Drug Mart at 5524 Spring Garden Road. A man came into the store, stole merchandise, assaulted an employee and then fled the area on foot.

On February 18 officers responded to an assault that had occurred at the same store. The same suspect came into the store, stole merchandise, sprayed an employee with insect repellant and fled the area on foot.

On February 28 at approximately 5:50 p.m. members from the Quick Response Unit arrested the suspect in Halifax without incident.

Phillip Wayne MacLeod, 51, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face the following charges:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Theft
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Fail to comply with a court order

Macleod also had an arrest warrant for failing to attend court in relation to 25 other incidents that occurred throughout the province in 2022.
