The Voice – Battles, Round Two

We’re back! Tonight was a second round of the battle episodes on The Voice and I was almost as excited as a hip hop singer meeting Rob Thomas. (Honestly, I did not believe that anyone was excited to meet him. But perhaps I’m wrong.) Team Cee Lo: DOMO vs. Cody Belew singing “Telephone” This seemed like a super weird pairing to me. I didn’t care for DOMO when she auditioned, and I honestly couldn’t remember Cody. DOMO’s personality is definitely not for me – I thought she was way too confident during the rehearsals and didn’t seem ready to take advice. Cody seemed like he knew he was facing an uphill battle and was eager to please. I didn’t think the performance was great for either of them – I bet Cee Lo was kicking himself for losing Amanda instead of one of these kids. I would have chosen Cody based on potential. Winner: Cody Belew Team Christina: Aquile vs. Nathalie Hernandez singing “You Give Me Something” I was excited for this battle because I remembered both these performers and liked them – especially Nathalie. I love this song, too, and thought it was a fantastic choice for both singers. During the performance, I felt like they both did a great job. My personal preference is Nathalie, because I love the tone of her voice. Winner: Aquile Like Christina, I thought Nathalie would fit in on Blake’s team and I was disappointed that no one snatched her up. Team Christina: Lisa Scinta vs. Celica Westbrook singing “My Life Would Suck Without You” Team Blake: Rudy Parris vs. Charlie Rey singing “Bad Day” What? What is this nonsense? We don’t get to see the whole battle? RUDE. Team Adam: Melanie Martinez vs. Caitlin Michele singing “Lights” Nice choice, Adam! I love the songs Adam chooses for his contestants. Melanie has a very different and, in some ways, weak voice, but is such an emotional singer. Caitlyn is a powerful singer, and I thought she might have an advantage on the big stage. I like that Adam gives his singers harsh and honest advice, even though they’re so inexperienced. I’d be in tears, but it’ll help them in the long run. I had high hopes for this performance, but ultimately I thought it was kind of a disaster. The end was nice, but overall I don’t think they pulled it off. The coaches loved it, so I wonder if it was more powerful live. Winner: Melanie Martinez We have a steal! Both Cee Lo and Blake hit their buttons to steal Caitlin. Even though Blake had been the one to turn around for her in the blind auditions, she went with Cee Lo. This episode wasn’t as exciting as last night’s, but I’m still digging these rounds and the new twist. Did you guys see anyone you liked tonight? ...
