The Voice: Liiiiiiiiive! Teams Blake and Christina!

The Voice: Liiiiiiiiive! Teams Blake and Christina! It’s time for the live rounds on The Voice, and YOU GUYS, what was going on with Cee Lo’s wig??? Hilarious. OK, now let’s get to the performances because, frankly, I fast-forward through anything featuring Carson Daly. Tonight we were hearing twelve performances from Team Blake and Team Christina.

Jermaine Paul (Team Blake) – “Livin’ On A Prayer”

I like Jermaine, but I found his performance weak. I mean, “Livin’ On A Prayer”? That’s kind of a karaoke song, and not something that made sense for Jermaine.

Chris Mann (Team Christina) – “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

Whether you like this style of music or not, you must admit that Chris Mann cansing. And this was a great song choice for him. I wouldn’t necessarily buy his record, but I can see Chris Mann having a career recording and performing these kind of classics. He’s a talent, there’s no doubt about it.

RaeLynn (Team Blake) – “Wake Up Call”

RaeLynn is the adorable Miranda Lambert wannabe, so I expected her to do a country song. Instead, she performed a Maroon 5 song. That’s already a brave choice considering the lead singer is in the audience, and she changed the song a lot. It didn’t really suit her in my opinion, and I didn’t feel the performance showcased the best of RaeLynn.

Moses Stone (Team Christina) – “Stronger”/”Power”

Doing a mashup of two Kanye West songs was a good idea for Moses, because it displayed what he does best – a combination of good rapping, somewhat limited singing, and stage presence. I don’t know if voters will respond to Moses, but I think he’s good at what he does.

Naia Kete (Team Blake) – “Turning Tables”

As soon as I heard this song choice, I thought “Whaaaa?” Adele is the opposite of a mellow singer. She has a booming, powerful voice. And that’s just not what Naia’s about. I believe that you can change a song enough that that doesn’t matter, but to me Naia just sounded out of breath and in over her head. As my friend Erin pointed out on Facebook during the show, Adele is one of those artists that should really only be covered if the performer has the pipes to do it justice.

Lindsay Pavao (Team Christina) – “Somebody That I Used To Know”

I wasn’t familiar with this song, but I was a big fan of Lindsay from early on and I was excited to see how Christina would display her talent. The performance was so cool, and she sounded great. I really hope voters get behind Lindsay, because I think she’s a really interesting artist.

Jordis Unga (Team Blake) – “Alone”

Jordis is one of the artists I’ve really been excited about on The Voice this season, because I was such a big fan of her on Rock Star INXS. But I was really disappointed with the song choice. I love Heart, but I think “Alone” is one of those songs that has reached a point where it needs to be retired from singing shows. Jordis is fantastic, one of the best of the night. But the song felt so typical.

Sera Hill (Team Christina) – “Find Your Love”

I have to say, I really like what Christina does with her team members. This song choice was really interesting for Sera, and I loved the theatrics of performances from Team Xtina. I thought this was a great performance, though the swagger felt more Beyonce than Mary J. Sera doesn’t have the strongest voice I’ve ever heard, but I like what she brings to the party.

Erin Willett (Team Blake) – “Living For The City”

I really, really love the tone of Erin’s voice and the effortless power behind it. I also love this song, and really enjoyed the stage theatrics during this performance. Erin is great, and this was easily one of the best performances of the night.

Ashley De La Rosa (Team Christina) – “Right Through You”

This was a good choice for Ashley because she considers herself a rock singer, but it allowed her to show off her pipes. She started out a little rocky, but she had a lot of confidence and stage presence and pulled through. By the second verse she was really rocking it. It wasn’t the best of the night, but I think Ashley has a really fun, marketable quality about her.

Charlotte Sometimes (Team Blake) – “Misery Business”

I don’t know this song, but I really enjoy Charlotte and I thought she delivered a great performance. I don’t think it was as memorable or unique as it could have been, but it was good.

Jesse Campbell (Team Christina) – “What a Wonderful World”

This is a classic song, but for me it made Jesse seem like too much of a wedding singer. Yes, it was beautiful. Jesse has an effortless, smooth voice that sounds like melted butter. And the performance was good. But what did we learn about him from this performance? I don’t know what could be done with Jesse as a recording artist today. Not yet, anyway.

OK guys, ready? Time for some rankings.

  1. Erin Willett (Team Blake)
  2. Sera Hill (Team Christina)
  3. Lindsay Pavao (Team Christina)
  4. Jordis Unga (Team Blake)
  5. Chris Mann (Team Christina)
  6. Moses Stone (Team Christina)
  7. Ashley De La Rosa (Team Christina)

  9. Charlotte Sometimes (Team Blake)
  10. Jermaine Paul (Team Blake)
  11. Naia Kete (Team Blake)
  12. RaeLynn (Team Blake)
